Our Story

Hello! 

 

My name is Brandi Miller, an educator of 22 years of high school and collegiate mathematics courses.  I hold a B. A. in secondary education licensed 7-12, B. S. and M. S. in Mathematics and M. Ed. in educational leadership.

 

I started PIN as a response to Covid shutting down traditional classrooms and learners having a lack of educator face-to-face support.  In the beginning, I thought I was just starting a tutoring business to help high school and college students improve their performance in mathematics courses. However, it quickly became so much more than that. 

 

What I noticed in many cases was that my clients weren't necessarily struggling with the content as much as they were struggling with life issues. A lack of confidence, study skills, note taking, mental health issues, and relational deficiencies was in the way of their success more than their lack of understanding the material in the course itself.

 

Building relationships and becoming a role model to my clients became more important than using the mathematics skills my higher degrees offered.  I found myself emerging in courses to strengthen my understanding of trauma, social economic issues and their impact, as well as basic communication skills.

 

Today, Power In Numbers has become a group of dedicated professionals working together in various institutions to help learners as well as educators identify the obstacles stopping them from reaching their goals and removing them using proven empathetic strategies.

 

This is crucial, urgent work and we are shaping young minds and the future of our communities daily.
